Veggie Talk & Food at Womens Meeting

We recently attended a local womens group meeting, to talk about RVV and serve up delicious veggie food!

The Everywomans Circle is a group of mostly OAP`s that meet once a fortnight at a community room in Headless Cross, Redditch. They got in touch with RVV several months ago to ask if we would give a talk about our group at one of their meetings. Always eager to raise awareness of veggie/vegan lifestyles, we jumped at the opportunity and the talk took place on Thursday 22 March. The group of 40+ women listened intently to an hour long talk which began with a brief introduction about our group and what we do. The talk included a summary of the main reasons why people adopt veggie/vegan diets, reports on 4 of RVV`s most successful events to date, details of the veggie food research that we are currently involved in, a short history of veganism and some more detailed info on the environmental impact of meat/dairy production. The women were surprised to learn that many celebrities are veggie/vegan as a long list of them was read out and they enjoyed hearing some well known veggie quotes from famous compassionate people who have long since departed. Finally, the dates of several local forthcoming RVV events were announced.

Following the talk, there was a 10 minute question and answer session and then it was time to tuck in to some veggie food that we had specially prepared for the evening. The ladies flocked to sample the nut roast, sausages, falafel and chocolate biscuit cake. And the food was not the only thing flying off the table as they filled their handbags with lots of reading matter, including our latest newsletter, veggie recipes, assorted leaflets and health magazines. Many of the ladies thanked us for our informative talk and delicious food, for which we received enough donations to cover the cost.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile evening and we now hope to be invited along to other local group meetings!
