RVV Members Campaign to Save the Planet!!
Over recent weeks, we`ve been busy raising awareness of the many environmental benefits of adopting plant based diets. During National Vegan Week, which this year focused on the environment, we gave a live interview to local radio and attended the huge Stop Climate Chaos march and rally in London. The following week, we held stalls at the NEW College during their very own `Global Warming Week`. Finally, we have designed and produced a range of stunning eco-veggie posters, which are an excellent resource for future events. National Vegan Week, held from Sat 28th October, focused on the environment this year, which gave us extra incentive to raise awareness of the devastation caused by the meat & dairy industries. On World Vegan Day, the 1st November, we gave a live interview on BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester, in which we were able to get across the message that anyone who cares about the future of the planet should ditch meat! By pure coincidence, on Sat 4 Nov, the biggest ever demonstration (in this country) against global warming, was held in London. The Stop Climate Chaos march & rally was organised by a very broad coalition of groups, including CAFOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, World Wildlife Fund, RSPB, Woodland Trust, Transport 2000, Sustrans and many more. A total of 4 veggies/vegans from Redditch attended, along with many more from across the Midlands. Like the 30,000 other protesters, we were there to demand that world leaders take urgent action against the root causes of climate change. But we also wanted to highlight the fact, that one of the most effective actions any individual can take to stop global warming, is to change their diet. We carried a banner which read, `Save the Planet, Go Vegan`, which was seen by many 1,000`s of marchers and general public. It was a very colourful, fun & vibrant event with hundreds of people in imaginative costumes, samba bands, cycling and dancing protesters. The rally featured many inspirational speakers including George Monbiot and Caroline Lucas MEP, of the Green Party. Take a look at our album of photos from the day, here
The NEW College in Redditch & Bromsgrove have been holding their very own `Green Awareness` half term during November, each week covering a different environmental issue. The term kicked off with `Global Warming Week` when both Redditch & Bromsgrove campuses created informative displays in their student lounges. We were invited to hold stalls/displays at both venues. We used our big `Save the Planet, Go Vegan` banner, together with our brand new range of eco-veggie posters(read more about those here) which created a visually impressive display. And all the latest environmental literature from The Vegan Society and Viva! was at hand for the students to take away. Click on the thumbnail images below, to see larger photos of the stalls.
