How you can help promote veggie/veganism in Redditch
Do you want Redditch to be more veggie-friendly? Would you
like healthy veggie/vegan food to be more accessible in
more local shops/restaurants? If you answered `yes` to
these questions, then this page will interest you! There are many ways
you can help promote vegetarian/veganism in Redditch,
both by taking small positive actions yourself, and by supporting us.
When eating out, always ask for what you would like!! - Don`t be afraid to request veggie/vegan options at local restaurants, cafes and in your workplace/school canteen etc. Caterers are increasingly providing more choice for veggies/vegans, but there is still a long way to go before we have as many choices as meat-eaters! Don`t feel that you have to `make do` or go without, if you can`t see what you want on the menu, ask if it`s available, request soya milk for your cup of tea, vegan `cheese` for your sarnies/pizza toppings etc etc. The more demands they get for veggie/vegan options, the sooner they will supply them!!
Encourage local shops to stock veggie/vegan products - As with restaurants, shops are slowly increasing their range of food etc suitable for veggies/vegans, but there is still much room for improvement! Supermarkets particularly, where they have the space, should provide the products that you want to buy. If they don`t, ask them to start stocking it. Either go to the customer service desk or write to/email the store concerned.
Do you know a good, local place for veggies? - Tell us about any good local shops, restaurants, cafes etc that you find. We have a growing list of local veggie friendly venues, but if you know any good places we`ve missed off, please let us know and send us as many details as you can.
Add a review to our veggie friendly restaurants/shops - If you go out for a meal or do some shopping at one of the venues we list, why not add a review. Whether good or bad, tell other people what you think about the food, products, service etc at these venues.
Discuss all things veggie on our online forum - We have our own message board/email list which everyone is welcome to join, including aspiring veggies. Discuss local venues, share recipes, ask questions, all veggie related messages are welcome on our forum. We need some dedicated posters to get it moving!
Would you like to help spread the word locally? - Why not lend a hand at a local information stall, food fair or with leafletting? We are always delighted to hear from people that can help us spread awareness of vegetarian/veganism. You don`t have to be knowledgeable about health & nutrition etc, everyone can get involved in some way.
Do you want to do some cooking for us? - We are always wanting food samples to give away on local stalls and at food fairs. Why not bake us a cake, make some samosas or whatever you fancy for us to give away!
Distribute our leaflets and newsletters locally - We produce an informative leaflet and a regular, positive newsletter which we would like to see distributed across Redditch. Why not hand some out to your friends, family, work colleagues etc.
Display our posters on noticeboards - Our A4/A3 posters are similar in design to our leaflets. Why not display some at your workplace, church, school, local shop etc
Write letters about veggie/veganism to local papers - Letters in newspapers are read by 1,000`s of people, so they`re a great way of spreading awareness. You could write about a local restaurant that you`ve recently visited, or about a topical news item eg `Meat heightens risk of stroke/cancer` or you could write about how you enjoyed the food at one of our food fairs!! Feel free to mention our web address! Send your letter to several local papers so that you have more chance of it being published.
Do you maintain a local website? - If you`re able to display a banner or text link to this website, we would be delighted to hear from you!
Join national veggie/vegan groups - Why not get involved with some of the national groups that promote veggie/veganism and support people making the change. Groups like The Vegetarian Society, The Vegan Society, Viva! and Animal Aid all have extensive websites, produce quarterly newsletters, have a fantastic range of colour leaflets and have helped millions of people to change their diet for the better!!
Send us a small donation if you can - We aim to be as active & effective as possible, but this costs money ie food samples on stalls, printing newsletters/leaflets, organising food fairs etc. All donations are very gratefully received, no matter how small, your donation will help us to spread the veggie message. Please make cheques payable to `Redditch Vegetarians & Vegans` and post to - RVV, PO Box 10202, Redditch, Worcs. B98 8YT.
